Other Uses of Viagra

Viagra is now being used to treat not only erectile dysfunction(ED) but also pulmonary arterial hypertension. It was also report in August 2007 issue of Harvard Men's Health watch that the drug may also have potential for treating several other conditions. The side effects of Viagra are mild and temporary like headaches, facial flushing, which occur only in a few users as observed. Other reactions include nasal congestion, indigestion, and lower back pain. One special note that men should know is never to use the drug when taking in nitrates.

Scientists are studying whether ED pills might help treat a variety of nonsexual problems. Viagra (sildenafil citrate) has been in the market for the longest time and it is the most studied drug among other drug of the same use and at least, may prove useful to treat several health conditions including Pulmonary Arterial Hypertion (PAH). Viagra is now marketed under another name Revatio which can treat a serious disorder on increase blood pressure in the pulmonary artery, pulmonary vein or pulmonary capillaries, all together known as the ling vasculature which leads to shortness of breath, dizziness, fainting and other symptoms. Pulmonary hypertension can be a severe disease having a visible mark of decreased exercise tolerance and heart failure.

Viagra can also reduce pulmonary heart pressure at high altitude or at regions where the atmospheric pressure is lower compared at sea level or simply at colder regions. The drug helps improve the ability of a user to exercise in low oxygen conditions.

One other health condition that Viagra was proven helpful in clinical trials is Raynaud's phenomenon, a vasospastic disorder causing pain and discoloration of the fingers, toes and occasionally other extremities. This condition can cause nails to become brittle with longitudinal ridges. Studies suggest that Viagra might also help patients with problems regarding heart failure caused by the abnormal ability of the heart (i.e ventricle). In this state, the heart is not contracting but is actually relaxed and is being filled with blood that is being returned to it therefore having insufficient blood flow to meet the body's needs, this is also known as Diastolic dysfunction.

Also in 2007 the LG Nobel prize was awarded to three young researchers of Universidad Nacional de Quilmes in Argentina for their discovery that Viagra aids jet lag recovery in hamsters. Their research was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. A lot of people use and buy viagra nowadays.
