In case of chlamydial pneumonia and trachoma, it is preferred over tetracycline.
A single dose of 1g is enough for treating chancroid and other urethritis. Donovanosis demands a daily dose of 500mg for 7 days or 1g weekly for 4 weeks. It produces side effects of mild gastric upset, dizziness, headache and abdominal pain.
