Generic Diflucan Is Used To Treat Fungal Infections
The brand name of the drug is generic diflucan and the generic name is fluconazole. Generic Diflucan is used to treat fungal infections called candidiasis also known as thrush or yeast infections. These include vaginal infections, throat infections, and fungal infections elsewhere in the body, such as infections of the urinary tract, peritonitis, and pneumonia.
Generic Diflucan is also prescribed to protect against candidiasis in people receiving bone marrow transplants, and is used to treat meningitis i.e. brain or spinal cord inflammation caused by another type of fungus. Generic Diflucan is also being prescribed for fungal infections in kidney and liver transplant patients, and fungal infections in patients with AIDS. Fluconazole interferes with the way the fungi organisms build their cell walls, effectively killing the infection.
Fluconazole acts as highly sensitive inhibitor of fungal demethylation. Possible side effects are allergic reaction, liver damage or a rash. It should be stored away from heat, direct light and moisture. Side effects are more common in susceptible persons like AIDS patients. Alcoholic beverages should be avoided if this medication is taken. It may also increase the prothrombin time i.e. the blood can take longer time to clot. For effective use medication should be taken at the proper time and overdose should be avoided.
