Pharmacy is derived from the keyword “Pharma.” The profession that links the health science and the chemical science is known as Pharmacy. “Mortar and pestle” are the two internationally recognized symbols associated with pharmacy. The person who practices pharmacy is known as Pharmacist. Compounding and dispensing medications are the two major scopes of the pharmacy practice.

In future the pharmacist rather than simply dispensing medication will be paid for their patient care skills. Pharmaceutics, Medicinal chemistry and Pharmacognosy, and Pharmacy practice are the three primary disciplines in the field of pharmacy.
The fourth primary discipline in the field of pharmacy is considered to be the Pharmacology. Pharmacology is nothing but the study of pharmacy and so it is considered to be the broader sciences. To be more specific it is the study of interaction between the exogenous chemicals and living organisms that alter normal biochemical function. The person who deals with the fourth primary discipline in the field of pharmacy (i.e. nothing but the Pharmacology) is known as Pharmacologist.
