Different types of infections in nails – Generic Nizorol
Most of the nail infections are caused by fungus. The fungus attacks a fingernail, the skin under the nail which is called as nail bed and a toenail. Whenever there is a breakdown or cuts in the skin, the fungus easily penetrates through the cut and grows causing infection. It also penetrates through the opening between the nail and the nail bed. A fungal nail infection probably won’t cause any problem in a healthy human body apart from a damaged appearance of the nail. But it causes more serious problems, if the person has weak immune system or if the person is diabetic.
Ketoconazole is used in the treatment of fungal infections. Generic Nizorol can be ordered from an online pharmacy.
Yeast, molds, and different kinds of fungi cause the fungal nail infections. It grows best in moist warm places and it spreads easily from one person to the other. The infected nail may turn yellow or white in color. The nail becomes thicker and crumbles and split and it may even get separated from the skin. There are different types of infections caused in the nails due to fungal attacks.
Distal and lateral subungual onychomycosis (DLSO) is an infection characterized by nail thickening at the finger tip or on the sides of nail, invaded nail bed, creamy or yellow color nail, small streaks and patches.
Distal Onychomycosis is the infection caused in the furthest part of the nail which lifts up the nail from the nail bed.
Superficial White Onychomycosis (SWO) infection causes chalk-colored patches in the nail. This infection is caused by fungus called Trichophyton mentagrophytes.
Endonyx is an infection where the nail is invaded by the fungus but the skin is not involved first. This rare infection is mostly seen with scalp or hair shaft endothrix infection. Endonyx onychomycosis is characterized by a diffuse milky-white discoloration of the affected nail, in the absence of nail bed hyperkeratosis or onycholysis. Nail plate surface and nail thickness are normal. This is specific to T.soundanense nail invasion and may possibly reflect the affinity of T. soundanense to hard keratins.
Proximal nail fold onychomycosis is the infection seen in cuticle end of the nail. All parts of finger nail and the thumbnail gets separated from the nail bed and this is usually associated with psoriasis.
Chronic paronychia, this infection starts with the loss of nail cuticle allowing the water and yeast to invade and causes swelling, redness and tenderness. This type of infection is mostly seen in middle aged women, this usually affects the index, thumb or middle finger.
For all these infections, topical medications are not usually curative. Topical medications are most effective for distal onychomycosis.Ciclopirox, naftifine and urea gel can be applied twice a day. Terinafine, Itraconazole, fluconazole, griseofulvin are the medications which are used for systematic therapy. Usage of healthy oils in foods such as olive oil or vegetable oil can reduce the symptoms of these infections. Exercise, calcium rich diet, avoiding refined food, eliminating fatty acids in food, consumption of 6 to 8 glasses of water daily helps to prevent and reduce the symptoms of these nail infections.
