Coronary Artery Disease And ED Tend To Co-Exist
Coronary artery disease is the disease of the heart caused due to shrinkage or narrowing of the arteries in the heart. The main function of the heart is to supply blood to all parts of the body to ensure proper functions of the organs. To pump out this pure blood throughout the body, the heart needs oxygenated blood. The heart also needs oxygenated blood to supply the pure blood, as we all need oxygen to breathe. These oxygenated bloods are supplied to the heart through the arteries. So if there is some problem or damage in the artery, there will be no or little supply of oxygenated blood to the heart. This is called as coronary artery disease.
In many cases it has been seen that coronary artery disease and ED tend to co-exist with each other. Viagra is mostly used to deal with ED. When it is the case with those who have CAD, the nitrite drug reactions might be hazardous. So, it is important to get the non-dangerous dosages prescribed from the physician.
In most of the cases, this disease is caused due to the high cholesterol levels in the blood. There are two types of cholesterol which should be considered for the normal function of the heart. The first one is High Density Lipoprotein, which is known as HDL cholesterol and Low Density Lipoprotein, which is called as LDL cholesterol. HDL cholesterol is called as good cholesterol. In blood, the fats are always combined with proteins which make them easy to flow in the blood. So they are called as lipoproteins. Low and high level lipoproteins are determined based on the percentage of fat to the protein. In LDL cholesterol, the protein percentage is less, which gives the low density and in HDL cholesterol, the protein percentage is high, thus making it high in density. When there is excess of LDL cholesterol in blood, these LDL starts depositing on the inner walls on artery. When this process continues, it results in atherosclerosis, which is the formation of plaques of LDL cholesterol in the artery walls. So the width of the artery decreases causing shrinkage or even a blockage in the passage through which the blood flows. Therefore, there is a limited flow of oxygenated blood due to narrowed artery or there is no supply due to the blockage.
Similarly, deposition of sugar along the sides of the artery also leads to the shrinkage of arteries. This is usually in diabetes patients, who have diabetes for more than 20 years. Even, the patients with high cholesterol content in blood also experience the coronary artery disease only after several years of being a high cholesterol patient, as this atherosclerosis occurs only due to continues deposits. Coronary artery disease can be treated with medications in the preliminary stage, where the symptoms like angina, fatigue, a feel of fullness are just started. In cases where the plaque formation is more than 50%, physician recommends a bypass surgery, stenting, or an angioplasty. Usually, this can be diagnosed by an electrocardiogram, which records your heart beat, TMT, a treadmill testing, which diagnoses the intensity of heart beat when at station and also at motion, echocardiography, which takes pictures of the heart using sound waves and angiogram, which determines the percentage of blockage or plaque formation in the arteries by recording the heart functions. Patients in medication are always advised to exercise regularly and maintain a low fat diet.
