Availability of Viagra

Viagra thrives and sells in all markets but not at the same level and vitality. Tough federal and state laws prohibit or regulate the sale of Viagra. In the Unites States, patent infringement and protection of intellectual property rights are taken seriously and the generics manufacturers might have a hard time entering the market. The need for cheaper diamond shaped blue pill prompted many Americans to become medical tourist an visit neighbors like Mexico and Canada where they can buy cheap quality pills. The internet is also one way where people get the cheaper versions. Americans would rather spend $2.1 per pill rather than the market price of Pfizer Viagra of almost $15 a pill.

The blue pill made has already made its debut in Europe, Latin America and Asian countries. In some Asian countries, the generics versions are easily sold ion local pharmacies because of the absence of restrictions and patent laws. In China for example, Pfizer is having problems with drug companies making cheap counterfeits of the blue pill because of the government tends to favor their local enterprises. India, Venezuela, and the China are some of the countries where the generic versions of the blue pill are manufactured. These countries maybe signatories to the GATT and the WTO agreements but their national interest have caused them to allow local manufacturers to produce the pill without patent rights from the creator Pfizer. Although the practice is considered unfair business trading practice, many countries have nationalist parliaments and governments which would do anything to help the local industries. Whether the countries should allow the manufacture of the generics version is now a political question.

The regulations in Europe are less tough than in the United States. The European Agencies Evaluations Agency approved the use of Viagra in Europe in September 1998, but we all know that such decisions of the European governing body is subject to approval in the national level (individual members states). Some European countries promote other brands like Levitra (created by the German company Bayer) as against Viagra (made by the American company Pfizer).

Japan does not usually accept clinical trials conducted in other countries. The Japanese are quite strict and they want the medicines rechecked and retried in Japan using Japanese test subjects, and to undergo approval process applying stricter Japanese standards. This nationalist approach in the land of the Rising Sun made it difficult for many drug companies to sell there. Luckily, Japan approved the drug in less than six months and accepted clinical test trials conducted in other countries. Cialis and Levitra did not enjoy the same fate.

Whether you are in the United States or Asia, you would however notice that is very easy to buy viagra online in reputable online pharmacies. The tough government regulations were not that effective in controlling the online trade.
